Saturday, June 4th Solution And Hint

I use stock images for my Wordle guides and sometimes they’re hilariously off, like the one above in today’s post. Can you see what’s wrong with it?

The first guess is TRAIN which gets the R in green and the I and N in yellow. So the R is all set, but the guesser needs to figure out where to but the I and N to get them into green. The next guess is GRIND, which is great! Now they’ve got all three letters in green.

It’s the third guess where everything falls apart. The B and R in BRINE both show up green, but the next three letters are in white. What gives? How did the I and N lose their green?

Most likely, whoever put this image together used a shot that only showed the B and the R. You can see the R is just materializing. So the shot left out the last three letters of the word, and instead of filling in the boxes with green and using white letters, they just put black letters in the white boxes. Of course, letters never show up black except for when you type in your guess. Once you guess the lettering is white on green, yellow or grey squares. It’s only black on white squares before you hit “enter.”

It’s a small thing, but irksome nonetheless. If you’re going to make a Wordle graphic just take the time to get it right.

In any case, we’re not here to bicker and moan about Wordle stock images. We’re here to look at today’s Wordle, which I actually got pretty quickly thanks to a very lucky guess.

How Wordle Works

Wordle is a game that’s simple to learn and play.

When you guess a word, letters that are correct will show up in green boxes if they’re in the right spot and yellow boxes if they’re in the wrong spot. Incorrect letters are greyed out in the alphabet below. By guessing and rearranging letters, you can puzzle out the correct answer. Below are some links to help you with your Wordling.

Today’s Wordle #350 Hint & Answer

Spoiler warning! Spoiler warning! Spoiler warning!

A hint: Found atop a mug of ale…

The answer is . . . .

As you can see, my second guess was incredibly skillful, er, lucky. Luck and skill!

Tears was a good first guess, winnowing the possible solutions down from 2,309 to just 26 (though of course I didn’t know this until I consulted Wordle Bot after the fact).

I was pretty shocked when broth turned up four green boxes. Going from two yellows to four greens was crazy! Then again, the great thing about tears was it ruled out two major vowels and the letter ‘S’ and took the ‘T’ out of the first spot. That made me think of words that could end in ‘TH’ since that’s fairly common.

Of course, once I had roth there was only one possible solution remaining: froth for the win! Now I’m going to go have a frothy pint! It’s Saturday, after all!

Have a great weekend, young padawans!
