Ronaldinho’s Godson Set To Join FC Barcelona

The godson of FC Barcelona legend Ronaldinho – Killian Ruas – could be set to join the club after training with its Juvenil B team.

The 16-year-old first came to the attention of top clubs in Catalonia when playing in the Mediterranean International Cup for the Royal Spanish Football Academy in 2018.

Featuring regularly for Atletic Sant Just in Barcelona’s western suburbs, he has also starred for Gava and Santfeliuenc in the region.

Facing Barca’s Cadete B team last season for Santfeliuenc, Ruas trained with Girona a few days ago and, according to Relevo, has joined some sessions of Barca’s Juvenil B team this week.

Ruas confirmed at the Mediterranean International Cup in 2018 that Ronaldinho is his godfather. “He’s my idol. In summer I am with him on the beach all day,” the youngster explained.

If Ruas were to be officially incorporated into the Juvenil B team, he would join Ronadlinho’s son Joao Mendes who was officially announced as a new part of it last week.

Mendes went on trials in January, and after featuring in a friendly against Manchester United with an outfit that was a mix of the Juvenil A and B teams, he joined the Juvenil B squad at the turn of the month as announced on the La Masia academy’s official social media accounts.

Ahead of signing up to the amateur Kings League which gives him extra reason to be in Barcelona on a regular basis, Ronaldinho confirmed at a Mundo Deportivo gala that he would be “more present” in the city because of Mendes joining the club.

Ruas will hope that his godfather can also watch him don Blaugrana soon, and will look to emulate the expolits of the 2002 World Cup-winning Brazilian who joined the Catalans the following year from Paris Saint Germain then fired them back to La Liga and Champions League glory from one of the darkest periods in club history.

Ronaldinho will play his next match in the Kings League when his Porcinos side take on Aniquiladores FC in Barcelona on Sunday at 19.00 local time as part of a set of fixtures that will be streamed live on Twitch.
