Web3 is Going Through Chaos
Randi Zuckerberg, sister of Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, recently gave her insights during the Global Supertrends Conference 2022, where she talked about the next iteration of the internet we know as Web3. She thinks the concept has not become reality yet and is actually going through a chaotic phase. She said that Web 2.7 has more chances of implementation in contrast.
Web 2.7 would be an ecosystem where there will be a safe environment for users with hints of centralization in the presence of interoperability.
Global Supertrends Conference is an innovative initiative for the ones standing in support of sustainable investment. As of now, it is operating on 6 supertrends: Climate change, anxious societies, millennials’ values, infrastructure, silver economy and technology.
Zuckerberg said that ‘people are currently looking after their own assets and are busy establishing multiple digital wallets.’ This is due to the fact that web3 and metaverse is supposed to be a decentralized ecosystem where no central entity will have command over the users unlike the current web.
Interoperability Is Missing To This Date
Zuckerberg gave an example of the games she and her sons play. She said that ‘she is currently on Decentraland, her son is playing battle royale game and metaverse Fortnite, and her other son is on Roblox.’ But there’s no way they can interact with each other through their respective environments. She said that this makes the metaverses as sole walled gardens.
Interoperability is vital if people are expecting the metaverse concept to become successful. In the absence of a network connecting the digital realms, it will create a new kind of gaming industry where people can enter and experience certain aspects which cannot be shared with other ecosystems. How sad that would be.
Zuckerberg also discussed the areas of opportunity the virtual world will create. She thinks that real estate is going to be among the most valuable areas to generate revenue streams. It is scarce, which automatically creates a value among the potential investors. She also believes that education is going to be a huge area for revenues and opportunities.
