‘Pieces Of Her’ Dethroned In Netflix’s Top 10 List By A New Show

Well, Pieces of Her came out of nowhere to perform surprisingly well on Netflix, as the Toni Collete-starring thriller has been very solid with a few-day stretch at #1 in the top 10 list. But now it’s the weekend and new shows are dropping, including a returning favorite that has unseated it.

That would be The Last Kingdom, which has just arrived with a new batch of ten episodes for season 5. It’s a series that sometimes flies under the radar as we talk about Netflix’s biggest offerings, but it has a large fanbase and has lasted quite a long time, indicating its relative strength. The show is part of a deal that Netflix did with the BBC in order to produce it internationally, and it’s been a solid performer for them ever since.

This is supposed to be the last season of The Last Kingdom, as it will end with season five. Well, technically it will end with a feature-length film called Seven Kings Must Die, which is supposed to be filming this year, and that will mark the official end of the series. I assume that will be coming to Netflix as well.

Netflix has seen a lot of Viking-based success recently, as just a short while ago, Vikings Valhalla debuted on the service, and it did so well that it was instantly renewed for two more seasons, which you don’t see too often with Netflix.

As for Pieces of Her, while it was not marketed as a limited series, it is based on a singular book, so a second season seems somewhat unlikely, and perhaps one of the author’s other books with different characters could be adapted instead.

Rounding out the rest of the Top 10 list is the final season of Good Girls, which will have to perform a lot better if Netflix is going to save it from cancellation. Then Inventing Anna is still #4, and has proven to be one of Netflix’s most-watched originals this year so far, if not the most watched. Love is Blind and Worst Roommate Ever continue to slide down the list. Vikings Valhalla is still in the top 10, which is then rounded out by…Shrek 1 and Shrek 2. What? People love Shrek, and now Netflix has Shrek. What more do you need to know?

We’ll see how long The Last Kingdom can stay on top. It doesn’t matter all that much since season 5 is the planned end of the series before the feature film. Hopefully it’s a satisfying finale for fans.
