Pavard Reportedly Offers Himself For FC Barcelona To Sign Following Cancelo Bayern Munich Arrival

Bayern Munich right back Benjamin Pavard has reportedly offered his services to FC Barcelona either now, in the current January transfer market, or in the summer.

The 26-year-old arrived at the Allianz Arena in 2018 from Stuttgart shortly after winning the World Cup with France in Russia that year.

In recent times, however, he has fallen out of favor with Hansi Flick for his alleged refusal to play at right back. He wishes to operate as a center back instead, and Pavard’s plight in the Bundesliga has become even more complicated at the turn of the week.

This is due to the Bavarians signing Joao Cancelo on loan, with the Portuguese reportedly falling out with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City after similarly falling down the list of preferred choices for the Catalan due to the emergence of Rico Lewis and strong form of Kyle Walker.

On Tuesday morning, Mundo Deportivo says that Pavard has offered his services to Barca either in the current transfer market or the next one in the summer, with his contract set to expire in 2024.

Pavard is reportedly refusing to sign a contract extension with Bayern, and this means that president Joan Laporta and his board could pick him up for a cut fee.

Due to Barca’s financial predicament, any approach is more likely to come ahead of the 2023/2024 season.

With Hector Bellerin on the outs and set to join Porto, first team coach Xavi Hernandez is short of natural right backs other than Sergio Roberto.

This would make signing Pavard an interesting prospect, but it must be asked whether Xavi too will encounter problems in getting the World Cup winner to play in the position if he has protested to Flick about doing so as well.

The only way to possibly keep Pavard happy would be by letting him play center back with Andreas Christensen and Ronald Araujo on occasion.

But he should perhaps take a leaf out of his compatriot Jules Kounde’s book too, with the ex-Sevilla man more than happy to play wherever the manager wants him and the team needs him as they push for the La Liga title together.
