Parents Of Phillies’ Alec Bohm Living In Vehicle Amid Legal Dispute, Per Filing

The Philadelphia Phillies have endured a disappointing start to their season, as players throughout the roster fall short of expectations.

But among all of the harsh performances, one of the most pronounced has been third baseman Alec Bohm’s at the plate. The former All-Star opened the season as the team’s cleanup hitter, but he has been moved down in the order as he slashes just .143/.218/.194.

After a second straight offseason at the center of trade speculation, Bohm’s start to the season has been among the worst in the franchise’s history.

“His .384 OPS is the lowest in the Phillies’ first 23 games (minimum 75 plate appearances) in the live ball era (since 1920),” MLB.com’s Todd Zolecki recently reported.

Philadelphia Phillies’ Alec Bohm Receives Update From Parents After Filing Lawsuit

And as Bohm struggles, fans can’t help but wonder if some off-field issues are impacting his performance at the plate.

Last month, Bohm initiated a $3 million lawsuit against his parents, Daniel and Lisa Bohm, over the handling of his finances. The third baseman’s lawsuit claims that his parents mismanaged Bohm’s money through a series of LLC, and he is seeking at least $3 million in compensation.

Now, in the latest update in the dispute, Bohm’s parents have attempted to clarify some of the claims in a filing from last week.

Among the responses to Bohm’s claims in the new documents was a clarification that Bohm confronted his parents last October in an hours-long conversation about the finances, which included the player stepping away to take phone calls, then returning with questions for his parents.

“Alec had never objected to or really questioned anything we ever did for him up until that point,” Bohm’s parents noted in the filing, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Nick Vadala. “His son, Daniel Bohm added, appeared to have been ‘asked to collect and report information to someone else.’”

Parents Of Philadelphia Phillies’ Alec Bohm Leave Condominium, Live In Recreational Vehicle

Another filing indicated that Bohm’s attorney instructed his parents to vacate his Florida condominium, which was also listed as their own address.

“Since then, Bohm’s parents said, they had been living in a recreational vehicle they used to travel to their son’s baseball games around the country,” per Vadala. “As of last week, they had ‘not had time to find new permanent housing,’ according to court documents.”

And his parents indicated that Bohm had failed to take “appropriate steps to transfer” bills tied to his property expenses before withdrawing funds from investment accounts that his parents used to pay them.

Attorneys for Bohm’s parents have moved to dismiss Bohm’s lawsuit and they opposed a request for a preliminary injunction, a date for which has not yet been scheduled. But following the latest claims from the Phillies’ infielder’s parents and as the legal dispute continues to develop, Bohm’s struggles at the plate could fall under even more scrutiny than ever.
