Over 3,500 U.S. Flights Canceled As Nor’easter Slams East Coast–Here Are The Most Affected Airports And Airlines

With a massive snowstorm causing disruption on the East Coast, airlines have canceled 3,560 flights within, into or out of the United States so far Saturday, with another 855 delayed, according to FlightAware.

Some airports in the Northeast ground to a virtual standstill, with 97% of flights canceled at New York’s LaGuardia, followed by 91% cancelled at Boston Logan, 90% at Newark Liberty and 80% at John F. Kennedy in New York.

JetBlue, whose operations are centered in New York and Boston, was the airline most impacted by the snowstorm, with 569 cancellations, or nearly 70% of its U.S. flights, followed by 473 cancellations by American Airlines, or 18% of its flights, and Delta canceled 469, or 19% of its total.

What To Watch For

About 1,000 U.S. flights have been canceled for Sunday, according to FlightAware. Some airlines, like Delta, have issued a travel waiver for passengers impacted by the snow storm.

About 55 million Americans are under winter weather alerts due to the powerful winter storm that is hammering the East Coast from North Carolina to Maine. The nor’easter could potentially bring record-breaking amounts of snow in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. The NWS forecasts up to 30 inches of snow in Boston, which could break its previous record of 27.6 inches that fell in 2003. Rhode Island is expected to get 18 to 24 inches of snow and Connecticut between 8 and 24 inches.
