Olivia Rodrigo, the singer who gained massive success with her debut album Sour just two years ago, is now gearing up to begin promoting her highly-anticipated second album, marking the next chapter of her musical career. The forthcoming album has been officially announced, and fans won’t have to wait too long to get a taste of it.
Rodrigo took to Instagram on Monday, June 26, to reveal the title and release date of her sophomore album. The project, titled Guts, is set to be released on September 8. The announcement generated an incredible amount of excitement among fans online, and various versions of the CD were made available for pre-order on her website.
In a handwritten note shared on social media, Rodrigo explained the inspiration behind Guts and what the album represents to her. “For me, this album is about growing pains and trying to figure out who I am at this point in my life,” Rodrigo said online. “I feel like I grew 10 years between the ages of 18 and 20,” she added, continuing, “it was such an intense period of awkwardness and change. I think that’s all just a natural part of growth, and hopefully the album reflects that.”
The lead single from Guts, titled “Vampire,” is scheduled to be released on Friday, June 30. It sees Rodrigo reuniting with producer and songwriter Dan Nigro, who played a crucial role in the success of her debut album, Sour. Rodrigo even teased a snippet of the cut, but the full track has yet to arrive.
Sour took the world by storm in 2021, propelling Rodrigo from her popular acting roles in various Disney productions to musical superstardom. The album reached No. 1 in multiple countries and spawned two Hot 100 chart-topping singles with “Drivers License” and “Good 4 U,” along with several other successful tracks. Rodrigo’s remarkable debut earned her multiple Grammy Awards, including Best New Artist, and she received nominations for Record, Album, and Song of the Year.
