OKC Thunder Unveils 2023-24 City Edition Uniforms Ahead Of Friday’s In-Season Tournament Debut

In what has become a highly anticipated part of the NBA calendar, the NBA and Nike
NKE
unveiled the 2023-24 City Edition uniforms on Thursday, which represent the stories, history and heritage that make each franchise unique while honoring the inherent bond between, court, community and culture.

“The Nike NBA City Edition platform features robust, hyperlocal stories from each of our NBA teams, creating a tapestry of the history of our game, its teams and the cities that support them,” said Christopher Arena, Head of On-Court and Brand Partnerships at the NBA. “It’s fitting that our 2023-24 Nike NBA City Edition uniforms will make their on-court debut during our inaugural NBA In-Season Tournament, as teams build upon the moments that define their franchises through their quest for the NBA Cup.”

While every team will wear these new uniforms at various times during the season, they will most notably be worn by the home teams throughout the new NBA In-Season Tournament, which begins Friday. This means that the Oklahoma City Thunder will debut these new City Edition uniforms on Friday as well, as the Golden State Warriors come to town for the start of this NBA In-Season Tournament, beginning at Paycom Center.

As it is every year, these City Edition uniforms go beyond just being a unique new kit. Created in partnership with Nike, the uniform’s design is meant to reflect Oklahoma City’s evolving landscape, its growth, and its momentum.

“The City Edition Uniform exemplifies Oklahoma City’s evolving landscape that we see in every neighborhood in all quadrants of the city,” said Brian Byrnes, Thunder senior vice president of Sales and Marketing. “By tapping into the strong roots that have propelled us to where we are today, we’re witnessing inspiring innovation and momentum in everything from food to music to public transportation that’s carrying us forward as we move into the second quarter of the 21st century.”

The base, or backdrop, of the uniform is a custom pattern consisting of various elements of Thunder logos and wordmarks, which is unlike anything we’ve seen before in an OKC uniform. The elements overlap, which is meant to represent that progression is the result of layering collective experiences, contributions, and perspectives.

Across the chest of the jersey are the letters “OKC”, with an upward orientation intended to represent forward progression and Oklahoma City’s inimitable story and unique brand of community art, as well as the city’s progression balanced by the offset nature of the number.

The vibrant pops of yellow and orange color in the piping, chest mark, and numbers represent Oklahoma City’s energy as well as the bright and optimistic art commonly found in the community. Finally, the state outline of the belt buckle speaks to the pride in Oklahoma City’s roots, what the city is today, and momentum into the future.

In addition to the uniform, the Thunder’s City Edition platform includes a similarly designed court and City Nights theme games.

Each Sunday home game beginning New Year’s Eve is designated as a City Nights game during which the team will wear the uniform and play on the City Edition court.

  • December 31: Brooklyn Nets
  • February 4: Toronto Raptors
  • February 11: Sacramento Kings
  • March 10: Memphis Grizzlies
  • April 14: Dallas Mavericks

These City Nights events are unique and great opportunity for an enhanced experience for fans that attend these games.
