Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Denver Broncos Preview

Jacksonville is hoping to right the ship after jumping out to a respectable 2-1 record this season before going into a tailspin. The club has now lost four consecutive games leading up to Week 8, although each defeat has been within a one-score margin.

The Jags now return to their home away from home—playing in London for the ninth time, far more than any other organization—with a chance to get back on track.

The Broncos were one of the more hyped squads coming into 2022 following their acquisition of star quarterback Russell Wilson. The move hasn’t panned out as expected, however, with the team sitting at 2-5 and mired in a four-game losing streak of its own.

Denver’s offense has sputtered out completely, putting a meager 14.3 points per game—by far the lowest in the league—on the board. Wilson hasn’t been able to spark the offense and is struggling with injury, missing last week’s disappointing defeat to the New York Jets.

The quarterback is expected to return to the field this week and will be desperately needed after backup signal-caller Brett Rypien went just 24-of-46 for 225 yards and an interception in his lone 2022 start.

Beleaguered Broncos head coach Nathaniel Hackett said his side will “keep the status quo” on a short week of preparation, but changes to the coaching structure and play-calling duties could be coming, especially if the Broncos don’t fare well in London after their last trip was a total disaster.

Denver is making just its second NFL International Game appearance on Sunday. They haven’t been back to London since 2010, a fateful trip that not only resulted in a 24-16 loss to the San Francisco 49ers, but also saw the organization get accused of impermissible videotaping of its opponent, a scandal that ultimately led to then-head coach Josh McDaniel’s dismissal.

While the Broncos don’t have a strong track record in England, Jacksonville hasn’t fared well in the country as well. Despite playing a game there regularly and being innately familiar with the unique logistics of playing an overseas contest, the Jags are just 4-4 all-time with losses in two of its last three outings.

Although both teams have the potential to be explosive, neither has shown it with any regularity. Expect another low-scoring affair with points at a premium. Playing the under—which is set at just 40.5 points—is a strong move, while fading the slumping Broncos against a feisty Jags foe is the best play against the spread.

Pick: Jaguars -2.5, Under 40.5

Prediction: Jaguars 20 – Broncos 14
