New ‘The Dragon Prince’ Clip Is Designed To Fool Audiences

When it comes to dragons, few shows do it better than The Dragon Prince.

It’s a wonderful animated fantasy on Netflix that I routinely tell everyone I know, both child and adult, to watch ASAP.

Created by Wonderstorm, the show tells the story of the magical land of Xadia which has been divided in half with humans on one side and elves, dragons and other magical creatures. Wonderstorm co-founder Aaron Ehasz was lead writer on Avatar: The Last Airbender and much of that show’s charm is alive and well in The Dragon Prince.

We’re three seasons deep so far but a fourth season is just around the corner, releasing this November. It marks the beginning of an entirely new story arc following a two-year time-jump. The Mystery Of Aaravos picks up where story left off, but changes the stakes significantly.

Wonderstorm just released a brand new clip from the Season 4 premiere. You can watch it below:

I’ve seen the entire first episode of the show, so I know the exact context of this scene and what happens right after. Spoilers ahead.

Amaya has traveled with her Sunfire Elf companion, Janai, into elven territory. She’s left alone for a few moments and is seemingly accosted by several of the dancers while Janai is away with Gren, her right-hand man and interpreter (since she’s deaf).

The elves brandish long, iridescent whips of some sort. They’re nimble and quick and it takes all that Amaya can do to fend them off. When she finally does, the three Sunfire Elves look much worse for wear.

It’s just at the last moment that Janai returns and intervenes, informing Amaya that these are just dancers and meant her not harm. The dancers are here to help celebrate an auspicious occasion—spoilers!—Janai’s marriage proposal to Amaya.

It’s a great scene in what is a really strong season premiere. The Dragon Prince is just around the corner and I can’t wait. Catch up on Season 1 and Season2 if you get a chance. In the meantime, there’s always The Rings Of Power . . . .
