  • The Horizon Worlds is a metaverse game similar to Second Life.
  • Meta changed their title from Facebook back in 2021.

Horizon’s VP of Social Media Leaving The Team

A key player in the Meta’s Horizon platform is leaving the organization. A spokesperson said that Vivek Sharma, the Vice President of the division, will leave the company. He has handled projects such as social media services of Horizon Worlds, a metaverse game similar to Second Life. People can perform real life activities in these virtual worlds.

After the announcement, the team will now report directly to Vishal Shah, Vice President of Meta Platforms. Mark Zuckerberg retitled Facebook to Meta back in 2021. This step was to show the world that they are entirely shifting their focus on the metaverse. It is believed that the organization is going to become one of the biggest players in this market.

In September 2021, Meta issued a blog where they described how the company is building the metaverse responsibly. They defined the metaverse as a set of digital worlds where people can conduct real life activities such as shopping, interacting, creating new stuff and more.

They highlighted the key areas of focus which will eventually serve as the foundation of the metaverse — equity and inclusion, safety and integrity, privacy, and economic opportunity.

For those who are unaware of the metaverse, it is like a digital twin to the Earth. A virtual world which is accessible through AR/VR goggles similar to a representation of digital worlds in Ready Player One. It is believed that this new concept will unlock new potentials concerning different aspects of life, especially revenue generation.

People think that this evolution of the internet will eliminate any centralized entities in the market. Which translates to virtual worlds representing user-owned economies. Currently, users are already using metaverse games like Decentraland, The Sandbox, Axie Infinity and more to generate income.

According to a report, one-third of the respondents were willing to quit their jobs to play NFT games. Non-fungible tokens and cryptocurrencies will become an integral element to make the metaverse whole. Though the concept has not gone mainstream, people believe that it is going to happen at some point in future. It is not necessarily that the digital realms will create a dystopian future as depicted in the movies, but a whole different reality.
