Mark Cuban Discusses Buying The Dallas Mavericks On Latest Episode Of ‘How I Got Here With Chris Paul’

The story of how Mark Cuban bought the Dallas Mavericks is something of a legend around Dallas-Fort Worth. It’s not every day that a fan buys an NBA franchise. But Cuban was not an ordinary fan.

The hustling kid from Pittsburg turned tech billionaire transplant in Dallas had a vision from his courtside seats over 20 years ago. Fast forward to today and the Mavericks and Cuban are two of the most recognizable names in sports.

In the latest episode of the new Bloomberg Quicktake show How I Got Here hosted by 12-time NBA All-Star Chris Paul, Paul sits down with Cuban to talk about a range of topics. Naturally, they recount the how and why of Cuban’s decision to buy the Mavericks.

What an exclusive clip from the episode below:

“There was nobody there. Nobody,” Cuban said about Mavericks games before he bought the team. “And I’m like, ‘I can do a better job than this.’ Then it hit me. ‘Ding, ding, ding.’ Now, I can afford this stuff!”

That isn’t all they talk about, though. The two discuss everything from Cuban’s childhood, Shark Tank, the key to building a billion-dollar business and how cryptocurrency will shape the future of business.

Look for the episode with Cuban on April 20.

How I Got Here is part of Quicktake’s streaming original programming. In the series, Paul interviews a variety of guests from the sports, entertainment and business worlds. Along with Cuban, Paul has spoken with Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps, media mogul Byron Allen, Beyond Meat
