Marcus Ericsson Unveils 2023 Indianapolis 500 Ticket At Indy Fuel Hockey Game

It was Indianapolis 500 Night at the Indiana Farmers Coliseum at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis. It’s the home of the Indy Fuel of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL).

In addition to the action on the frozen pond between the hometown Fuel and the visiting Iowa Heartlanders, the special guest was NTT IndyCar Series driver Marcus Ericsson of Kumla, Sweden.

Ericsson won the 106th Indianapolis 500 on May 29, 2022.

Ericsson, an avid hockey fan and former player, unveiled the ticket during the second intermission of the game at the Indiana Farmers Coliseum in Indianapolis.

The ticket for the 107th Running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge features an iconic, action shot taken by IMS Photographer Joe Skibinski. The photo captures the moment Ericsson poured the traditional milk (after taking his celebratory drink) over his head during the Victory Podium celebration.

Ericsson is wearing the Winner’s Wreath, which features 33 ivory-colored cymbidium orchids with burgundy tips (representing each of the cars in the starting field of the race), red, white and blue ribbon, checkered flags and a base of cedar blocks inscribed with “BorgWarner.”

The ticket background is black and incorporates historic track blueprints. These design elements are representative of the track surface and a nod to the design of the logo for the 2023 Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge.

Designed by IMS Senior Art Director Mandy Walsh, the souvenir ticket is embossed and features a gold foil outline to embody the class and prestige of the Indianapolis 500.

The honor of the winning driver featured on the next year’s “500” ticket dates to Mauri Rose’s appearance in 1948.
