Manchester United Sign Mason Mount From Chelsea

Manchester United have confirmed the signing of Mason Mount from Chelsea on a five-year contract that runs until June 2028, with the option of a further year.

The 24-year-old England international has been purchased from the south London club for an initial fee of £55 million, and could pay up to another £5 million in add-on clauses depending on what Mount achieves while at Old Trafford.

Mount has been at Chelsea since he was 6-year-old and has amassed 195 appearances and scored 33 goals for the club. He won the Champions League with them in 2021, providing the assist for the winning goal in their final victory over Manchester City, and has twice been voted Chelsea’s Player of the Year, in 2021 and 2022.

He has also enjoyed two successful loan spells at Vitesse in The Netherlands in the 2017-18 season where he scored 14 goals in 39 appearances, and Derby County in The Championship in the 2018-19 season where he scored 11 goals in 44 games.

Mount made his international debut for England in September 2019 and now has a total 36 caps, which included being a starter in their run to the final of Euro 2020.

“Having competed against them, I know just how strong a squad it is that I’m joining, and I can’t wait to be part of this group’s drive to win major trophies.”

United have been tracking Mount for most of the last year and the club’s football director John Murtough has spoken about his excitement at signing him.

“Mason is an extremely intelligent footballer and has so many fantastic technical qualities that will significantly add to our squad,” Murtough has said. “We have admired his talents for a long time, so we are delighted that he has chosen to take the next steps in his career here at Old Trafford.”

“His style of play and attributes are a perfect fit for this squad, and we all believe that he will only improve further working with Erik ten Hag and his coaching staff.”
