Los Angeles Rams’ Sean McVay Has A Super Bowl Ring, With A Super Rich Contract On The Horizon

Los Angeles Rams coach Sean McVay has a splashy new Super Bowl ring. What he doesn’t posses is a fresh contract, but he’s not sweating it.

“We’re in a good place,’’ McVay said as the Rams begin training camp in defense of their NFL title.

McVay likely will have his extension in the coming weeks and it’ll be as gaudy as the Rams’ jewelry for winning Super Bowl 56. He’s in line for a significant raise after directing the Rams to its second Super Bowl championship and its first in Southern California.

It’s estimated that McVay, who also led the Rams to Super Bowl 53, will become among the NFL’s highest-paid coaches. Reports have estimated that McVay earned $8.5 million last year or about $3.5 million less than New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick. It’s believed that Belichick and Seattle’s Pete Carroll ($11 million) earn more than any other NFL coaches.

The Rams are also expected to placate general manager Les Snead with an extension. McVay and Snead often refer to themselves as a pair, so both could have new contracts sooner rather than later.

Both of the deals were enhanced after the Rams reached Super Bowl 53, where they fell to Belichick’s Patriots. But they’re due to have their compensations adjusted again after L.A. beat the Cincinnati Bengals in Super Bowl 56, the final chapter in a do-or-die season in which the Rams went all-in to bring a championship to L.A. in the first Super Bowl at SoFi Stadium, their home venue.

“I feel really good about the direction (the negotiations) are going in and I think it’ll be something where it’ll be me and Les and you guys will know when that is finalized for us,’’ McVay said.

After the Rams’ final game, McVay started a stir when it was reported he was considering walking away from L.A. for an NFL broadcasting job. When it was estimated that McVay could collect between $10-$15 million annually for talking about the game he loves, some considered his intentions more than an idle threat.

McVay, 36, isn’t going anywhere and the Rams will make sure of that with a rich new deal. Don’t be surprised if something is announced before the Rams open the season against the Buffalo Bills on Sept. 8.

“I wouldn’t want to put a timetable on it but I’d say more than likely,’’ McVay said. “But again, these things can kind of drag on as we all know but I do really feel good about the direction and all the conversations that have been had as it relates to myself and Les.’’
