Kristen Bell Joins Wellness Platform “Hers” As A Mental Health Ambassador

Kristen Bell has joined health and wellness platform Hers as the company’s first Mental Health Ambassador.

Beginning today, The Good Place actor will appear in two spots for the brand that encourage conversations for those struggling with anxiety and depression to explore treatment options.

Bell, along with her husband Dax Shepard, has been outspoken for some time about the importance of destigmatizing mental health. She’s among a rising tide of Hollywood talent who are using their influence to elevate conversation and action. Selena Gomez co-founded the mental fitness venture Wondermind last year and more recently shared the story of her struggles in Apple TV+ documentary My Mind & Me, and Jonah Hill spotlights his therapist Phil Stutz’s approach to brain health in the new NetflixNFLX
doc Stutz. Black Mafia Family actor Da’Vinchi will launch a tour of historic Black colleges and universities later this year to share his mental health journey.

“The stigma around talking about your mental health and your well being—I do not get it,” says Bell. “Why are we as a society not uplifting people to take control of their own brains, and saying, ‘What do you need to feel better?’”

Bell says it was Shepherd who initially encouraged her to open up about her own journey. “He said, ‘You should tell the full story of yourself.’ And I realized there had been this huge gap between who I was presenting to the world, even sometimes to my intimate family members, and what I really felt inside.”

Since then she says, “I’ve been an open book with my struggle with anxiety and depression. I want people to feel empowered to take control of their lives and to check in with themselves.”

Hers’ individualized care includes access to virtual psychiatry and therapy services, free support group sessions and on-demand treatment education. Customers who have sought psychiatric treatment through the Hers platform and who were prescribed medication by a licensed healthcare provider have reported improved PHQ and GAD scores about four weeks after first seeking treatment, according to the company.

“Talking about mental health has never been more important. At Hers, we feel strongly that more people need to understand the resources available for mental health and that everyone deserves access to effective and affordable treatment,” says Hilary Coles, co-founder and SVP of brand & innovation, Hims & Hers.

“Mental health is a subject that hits close to home for many, and it’s oftentimes a tough topic to talk about. It isn’t until recent years that some people have been more open about their mental health and advocating for the importance of proper care, and I think part of this evolution is due to celebrities being transparent about their mental health,” she adds.

“In talking about their own struggles publicly, celebrities are helping to break down long-standing stigmas that society has created surrounding certain topics—mental health being an important one of them.”

Coles says by working with Bell “we feel that she can help people feel supported, safe and confident in tackling their mental health journey virtually, which is critically important to us as a mental health platform. We are certainly watching and listening to the impact she will have to determine how a partnership like this could help more people and fight the stigma of mental health.”

The Hers partnership also will leverage Bell’s creative studio and production company Dunshire Productions, launched in 2022, to conceptualize, produce and execute the creative campaign.
