The prime minister had already been isolating since Wednesday, when he learned he had been exposed to someone who tested positive for the virus – his first rapid test was negative, he said.
Trudeau is double vaccinated and received a booster dose earlier this month.
The prime minister’s wife, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, tested positive in March 2020, and was among the earliest public figures to announce they had been infected.

Trudeau is reportedly sheltering in a secret location in Ottawa with his family after they were evacuated from their home amid worries of violence from protesters, according to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. Thousands of protestors descended on Parliament Hill and surrounding Ottawa over the weekend. The rally, dubbed “The Freedom Convoy,” was first focused on the Canadian government’s vaccine mandate for truckers crossing the U.S.-Canada border, but has since expanded to include other Canadian restrictions meant to mitigate the spread of coronavirus.
