Injured Fox News Correspondent Benjamin Hall Is ‘Alert’ And Has Left Ukraine

Topline

Benjamin Hall, a Fox News correspondent who was “seriously” injured in Ukraine Monday while reporting on Russia’s invasion of the country, is now “safe and out of Ukraine,” Fox News Media CEO Suzanne Scott told staffers Tuesday.

Key Facts

In a memo, Scott told staffers Ben is “alert” and “being treated with the best possible care in the world,” though she did not provide specifics on his condition or location.

Hall was injured during a Monday attack outside of Kyiv that killed veteran Fox cameraman Pierre Zakrzewski and local journalist Oleksandra “Sasha” Kuvshynova, who was working as a consultant for the network, Fox said.

Key Background

The Fox team’s vehicle was hit with incoming fire while reporting “in the field,” Scott said Monday. Zakrzewski and Kuvshynova are not the first journalists to be killed while covering the conflict. Filmmaker and journalist Brent Renaud was killed outside of Kyiv Sunday. He was in the area while working for Time Studios. Renaud’s reporting partner, Juan Arredondo, was shot during the attack but survived.

Tangent

Fox host Greg Gutfeld, who had a “little kerfuffle”with Hall last week over the media’s coverage of the invasion, addressed Hall’s injury Monday. Gutfeld said that the damage being shown in Ukraine “is a lot like other stories…in which an image is taken and then played over and over and over again to create some kind of emotional response out of you, because that makes a profit for news companies.” While reporting live from Ukraine, Hall said “speaking as someone on the ground, I want to say that this is not the media trying to drum up some emotional response.” Gutfeld called Hall’s comments a “cheap attack.” After news of Hall’s injuries broke, Gutfeld wished his colleague well. He said the two spoke after their disagreement. “He said, Greg, ‘you can’t do my job, and I can’t do yours.’ And I said, ‘duh, my job is way easier,” Gutfeld said. “I hope to God he makes it through. It is a horrible thing that happened to him and he is, to sound British, he is a lovely guy.”
