Directed by Vikas Bahl (of Queen fame), the film also stars Rashmika Mandanna, Sunil Grover and Elli AvrRam. Ponniyin Selvan I is about an Indian prince from the kingdom of Cholas. The film is based on Tamil author Kalki Krishnamurthy’s series of five books, Ponniyin Selvan. The historic drama paints an enchanting picture of the yesteryear Indian kingdom and holds the women characters with equal respect and dignity as the men characters. The second installment of Ponniyin Selvan will hit theatres in 2023. Ponniyin Selvan I released across the globe on September 30 in five languages – Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam.
The Hindi remake of Vikram Vedha, has also had a dismal show at the box office. The film starring Hrithik Roshan, Radhika Apte and Saif Ali Khan also hit theatres on the same day as Ponniyin Selvan: I did. It grossed roughly $12.1 million in ten days.
