  • Hodlonaut and Craig Wright lawsuit finally reaching a conclusion.

Craig Wright, a Self-proclaimed Bitcoin investor, was called “Fraud,” and it was part of a foolhardy campaign which shouldn’t be tolerated in a democracy. On Wednesday,  nChain Chief Scientist Craig S. Wright’s attorneys informed an Oslo court on the seventh and final day of a civil case carried by Twitter personality Hodlonaut.

Helen Engebrigtsen, Judge of District Court, has to decide Whether Hodlonaut’s statements that Wright was a “fraud” were lawful free speech. Wright stated that he is Satoshi Nakamoto, an anonymous author of a white paper in 2008 that began the cryptocurrency revolution, but he failed to prove his claims of being Nakamoto.

Wright informed the court last week that he had destroyed some of the major evidence he could use to prove that he was indeed Satoshi.

The attorneys of Wright argued that The Norwegian constitution and European Convention on Human Rights both protect free speech while protecting a private life has its limits.

Tweets sent in 2019 by Hodlonaut, whose identity has since been exposed as Magnus Granath, were a “lasting well-thought and reckless campaign that others were to take part in.” Attorney of Wright Halvor Manshaus stated in court, “To call somebody a fraud and a scammer – that, I would say, is harassment …That is not protected by freedom of expression.”

Halvard Helle, a teammate of Manshaus and partner at Schodt law firm based in Oslo, mentioned tweets declaring Wright as a fraud constituted “persistent ongoing attacks.” that goes “way beyond what should be the climate of expression in a liberal democracy.”

The lawsuit may hinge on whether the reference to Wright as “mentally ill” and a scammer by Grenath should be taken as a statement of facts capable of being proved or there is only a value judgement.

On 12th September, Hodlonaut’s lawyer told the court they’d commissioned multinational auditing firm KPMG to authenticate Wright’s evidence submitted in the case. The report is expected to show that many documents submitted by Wright are either manipulated or unverifiable and will be discussed when a KPMG representative testifies on Friday.
