Hit Thriller ‘Tríada’ (Triptych), Pregnancy And RBD Reunion Tour

For Mexican actress and singer Maite Perroni, 2023 is turning out to be a great year. The star has scored another hit with her new Netflix thriller Tríada (Triptych), she is expecting her first child, and later this year, will hit the road for a world reunion tour with her former RBD bandmates, almost 15 years after their breakup.

In her new Netflix thriller Tríada (Triptych), Perroni portrays triplets separated at birth as part of an unethical experiment. The series was the number one non-English TV program on the platform’s global top 10 during the first two weeks since its premiere, and was also among the ten most viewed in the U.S. While it fell off its perch in week three, it remains among the top ten.

“I feel very proud to know that a Mexican project can go globally and can have this success,” she says. And one that challenged her to bring three different characters to life.

“The process was very complicated but in the end, I loved it because it was an amazing opportunity for me to become a better actress,” she shared during a bilingual interview, in which she easily toggled back and forth between Spanish and English answers.

The former telenovela star and member of Mexican pop group Rebelde – RBD – has a very dedicated fan base. Her Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and TikTok accounts have a combined social media following of almost 30 million, helping attract huge audiences to her projects. Since she transitioned from linear telenovelas to streaming series, they’ve tagged along, boosting her prior Netflix series Dark Desire to number one and making El Juego de las Llaves a hit, where she took on edgier roles.

“It has been a blessing to be able to do what I’m passionate about and allow myself to take risks that moved me out of my comfort zone. Juego de las Llaves has been super important for me. It opened the door for me to move into the streaming world with Amazon in a project that made us rethink our love relationships. I really enjoyed being part of the first and second season. That led to Dark Desire and from there comes this new challenge with Tríada.

The actress says she’s always looking to evolve and grow professionally. That’s why she has now added producer credits to her portfolio.

“Production is definitely one of my goals and in the long term, I would also love to be able to generate that content to give opportunities to other actors to be able to tell other kinds of stories,” she states. “I’m very excited because I have a lot of things to learn. But at the same time, I have all the attitude and the energy to do it because in the future, I want to produce …and share different kind of stories with the world. And it’s it’s an amazing opportunity to learn with Netflix how to do it right.”

But the one role Perroni is very excited about is motherhood. She’s expecting her first child, a baby girl, in May.

“I’m going to pause all work for a few months to enjoy the most beautiful and important stage of my life once my baby arrives, focusing on her and being a mom,” the actress says with a beaming smile.

But it will be a short break.

“It’s only going to be three months, because after that, I have to be on a plane to El Paso, Texas for the first Rebelde concert.”

Perroni will be reuniting on stage with the original members of the internationally successful Latin pop music group that sold over 15 million records worldwide from 2004 until 2009, when RBD disbanded. The tour will last four months with a grueling 60-concert currently scheduled.

“This year is going to be an amazing one because finally, after 15 years RBD is going to be together again. We are going to do our comeback, our last time together. “We’re going to start the tour August 25 in Texas. And then we’re going to go all over the way until December to the United States, Colombia, Brazil, Mexico and we are very excited.”

Perroni says that pretty much wraps up her year. What’s next? The actress revealed she’s looking at some English-language scripts, but that there’s nothing concrete. In the meantime, she’s giving it her all to her current projects.

“I will be focused on wrapping promotion for Triptych, the baby and then prepare to go on tour. We’ll see how things fall into place for 2024. with all the fiction projects and everything that’s happening. I’m so busy, I’m short on time, but I have to thank God that right now, I have a lot of work.”
