Green Bay Packers Quarterback Aaron Rodgers Is Perfectly Positioned To Win MVP Honors

No. 12 is on the brink of No. 4.

With one week left in the NFL’s regular season, Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is the consensus favorite to capture his fourth MVP award.

Rodgers also won MVP honors in 2011, 2014 and 2020.

According to DraftKings, Rodgers is now listed at -400 to win MVP honors. That means someone would have to place a $40 bet to win $10.

Tampa Bay quarterback Tom Brady is second at +500, meaning a $10 bet would pay out $50. Cincinnati quarterback Joe Burrow (+1000), Indianapolis running back Jonathan Taylor (+1600) and Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp (+2000) round out the top five.

Rodgers has thrown 35 touchdowns and just four interceptions in 2021, a remarkable ratio of nearly 9-to-1. And in his last six games, he’s thrown 18 touchdowns and no interceptions.

Rodgers leads the NFL with a 111.1 passer rating, is third in touchdown passes, fourth in completion percentage (68.6%) and ninth in passing yards per game (265.1).

He’s also led Green Bay to a 13-3 record and the NFC’s No. 1.

Running back A.J. Dillon was asked if Rodgers should be the MVP and said: “Undoubtedly. I mean, I don’t have a vote. But if I were, got to give it to the most talented quarterback to ever throw the ball. That’s all I’m saying.”

Brady leads the NFL in touchdown passes (40) and passing yards (4,990). Brady ranks eighth in passer rating (100.5) and has guided Tampa Bay to a 12-4 record, which is tied for the NFC’s second-best mark.

“He’s phenomenal,” Jets coach Robert Saleh said of Brady last week. “Just watching his tape, I’m in absolute awe of his pocket presence, his footwork, just all of it. His decision-making. He’s an absolute stud and no question the greatest that’s ever played the position. Anyone who questions it, just look at the amount of (Super Bowl) rings he has (seven).”

Burrow is a late challenger after leading the Bengals to the AFC North title.

Burrow ranks first in the NFL in completion percentage (70.4%), second in quarterback rating (108.3), fifth in passing yards (4,611) and sixth in touchdown passes (34).

Taylor leads the NFL with 1,734 rushing yards, more than 500 ahead of second place Joe Mixon of Cincinnati (1,205). Taylor also leads the league in rushing touchdowns (18) and total touchdowns (20).

Kupp is about to hit the triple crown of receiving milestones. He leads the NFL in receptions (138), receiving yards (1,829) and receiving touchdowns (15).

Green Bay has the NFC’s No. 1 seed locked up, but Rodgers is expected to play some in the Packers’ game at Detroit Sunday. And barring a major collapse, his lead over Brady and the rest of the field might be too big to make up.

There are 50 voters chosen by the Associated Press every year that decide the MVP. Each voter casts a single vote for their pick, and the player with the most votes wins.
