Gala Games and Gallium Studios: a promising partnership

Gala Games, the blockchain-based gaming platform with 15 titles launched or in development, has a staggering 1.3+ million monthly active users. With a user-base that large, games launched by Gala are more likely to become popular right off the bat. Unsurprisingly, Gallium Studios, an independent gaming studio founded by industry veterans Will Wright and Lauren Elliott, has chosen Gala as the host platform for their next project. Wright is a major figure in gaming, having famously designed groundbreaking video games such as Sim City, The Sims and Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego. Now Wright is releasing his first game since 2008, joining forces with Gala.

Gallium Studios’ first projects that use blockchain are VoxVerse, an NFT-powered metaverse for Gala Games’ VOX Collectibles, and the memory simulation mobile game Proxi (the company’s main product). Both Gallium Studios and Gala Games are excited to be partnering in this new NFT-based project because they believe so strongly in what it can represent. Eric Schiermeyer, CEO of Gala Games, has gone on record as saying “I wouldn’t be doing this if I didn’t think this was literally the next phase of the internet. Everything that touches ownership is going to be affected by what’s happening here. Art and music and everything that has a digital life is going to be touched by this. Anything that you thought was digital that you thought you owned but didn’t really own — that’s what’s about to be revolutionized.”

With NFT-driven play-to-earn (P2E) games, players now can take real ownership of their in-game assets as NFTs on the blockchain. Although virtually identical in function to their traditional counterparts, having in-game items minted as NFTs and in-game currency fully usable as crypto opens a host of possibilities for the player. In addition, thanks to their decentralized nature, the ongoing development of P2E games is often done collaboratively, with player feedback often considered by the developers to improve the game, as is the case at Gala. Gallium Studios’ VoxVerse & Proxi will join the ‘Galaverse’, as the Gala Games metaverse is known. In the Galaverse, users receive rewards & pay fees utilizing Gala Coin ($GALA), the main utility & governance token across the Gala ecosystem.

Having partnered with such an industry heavy-weight will be, no doubt, a major landmark for Gala Games. Considering how impactful Will Wright’s game titles have been to the industry, his newest venture with Gala will attract new users & excite current players. It will also be extremely interesting to watch where Gallium Studios goes in the near future; will Will Wright be able to repeat his success in introducing groundbreaking titles to the next generation of gamers? Only time will tell.
