‘Gadar 2’, ‘Jailer’ Cross $75 Million

Sunny Deol’s new Hindi film, Gadar 2, continues its successful run at the box ofice and the film has crossed $75 million global gross collections in 22 days since it first released on August 11. Directed by Anil Sharma, the film also features Utkarsh Sharma and Ameesha Patel in lead roles. Gadar 2 grossed $77.9 million worldwide in 22 days since the release.

The film made an opening collection of $4.9 million in India alone, and became the second highest-opening Indian film of 2023. The number one slot on the list belongs to Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan that made an opening collection of $6.6 million in India.

Several single-screen theatres and even multiplexes reported full-house for throughout the first week of Gadar 2’s release. The highest single-day collection for Gadar 2 was recorded on August 15 (Indian Independence Day, a national holiday in the country) – surpassing the $4.9 million opening collection, the film made $6.2 million nett collection in India alone on August 15. By the end of its first week, the film collected gross earnings of $ 40 million in Indian markets while it collected $45 million globally.

Majorly riding on the nostalgia value of the narrtive and lead characters, Gadar 2 does not offer any novel content or fresh perspective. Nonetheless, Indian audiences have lapped up the film like their own and the craze for the movie refused to die down even in the third week. Starting Tuesday, The film is inching close to $70 million gross collections in India alone.

Jailer Box office report

Initially, the Rajinikanth film scored better than Gadar 2, but the Tamil film has now slowed down. Jailer crossed $70 million in 22 days and grossed $76.6 million worldwide. The film has been scoring well in markets outside India – the figure for collections in the Indian markets stood at $47 million in 21 days.

Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, Jailer also features Ramya Krishnan, Priyanka Mohan and Vasanth Ravi in lead roles. Veteran theatre artist Makrand Deshpande, Bollywood star Jackie Shroff, Malayalam star Mohanlal, and Kannada star Shiva Rajkumar also appear in the film in short but special roles. Tamannaah Bhatia also features in the film produced by Sun Pictures.

Jailer is a typical entertainer that trgets Rajinikanth fans by packaging all the elements of a Rajinikanth-film in the movie. Additionally, it also offers scope for the veteran actor to showcase his talent by playing his own age. He essays the lead role of a retired jailer who prefers to stay meek and submissive to his family, untill an external factor puts the family in danger. Soon, the superstar takes over the family man’s persona to fight for his family.

OMG 2 Box office report

Akshay Kumar’s latest outing, featuring Pankaj Tripathi and Yami Gautam in lead roles scored well for the exposure and screens that it had. OMG 2 was released in limited theatres – partly due to the release of other major films, and partly due to its Adults only certification in India. The film has managed a total of $21.1 million at the global box office, as per Viacom 18 Studios.
