Full Swing’s Portable Launch Monitor Lets More Golfers Train Like Tiger

The ask came from Tiger Woods himself. The launch monitor technology he was using had a tendency to miss about one in every five shots. For someone having undergone multiple back surgeries, Tiger simply couldn’t afford to have a shot that wasn’t registered, so his directive to the team at Full Swing Golf was to develop something for him that would perform at the same level as the existing leading technology in the market, but with more consistency.

“We took that very seriously and we jumped into this with wanting to deliver a product that was the most accurate when it comes to measuring the full flight of the ball,” said Jason Fierro, Full Swing’s Chief Operating Officer. “And then said, ‘I also would like to have this be at a price point that would allow it more accessible for golfers to get the top level. You know, performing technology and not have it be in that $20,000 to $25,000 price point.’ So, we took that and ran with it.”

Full Swing’s development process was “a long road,” Fierro acknowledged, but the finished product – the Kit Launch Monitor — has been well-received. Especially by Tiger. It’s good enough for the pros, but accessible enough by a much wider range of golfers. The Kit syncs with a user’s app within seconds and delivers 16 points of radar data for a player’s swing – from carry and total distance to spin rate, ball and clubhead speed, smash factor, club path, apex, attack angle and more. It allows players to see their swing in full clarity too, with a 4K camera that automatically sends 1080p video to any connected device.

As for the price point, it’s significantly less than many other launch monitors on the market at $3,999.

“They delivered more than I ever could have expected,” said Woods, who has been an investor and a spokesman for Full Swing since 2015. “I wanted to bring a launch monitor to golfers everywhere that was going to be used on Tour but easy to understand and at a price that more golfers could afford.”

The Full Swing KIT is compact, durable and perhaps most importantly, is user-friendly and delivers swing data instantly. The set-up is exceedingly easy and the feedback, which is exceedingly accurate, appears on the unit’s screen as well as on a user’s app.

“Living in a data-driven world, golfers constantly have the mindset to get better and work on things they think are going to help improve their game,” Fierro said. “Well, what this device allows you to do is gauge whether those changes you’re making in your swing are actually translating into gains in carry distance or tightening that dispersion so you’re not hitting the ball over the course. It builds a level of confidence.”

Full Swing’s high-tech indoor simulators are a staple for the business, so to be able to provide quality outdoor data on the range is a major source of pride for the company, which has been voted as one of the Top 100 businesses in the golf industry by the National Golf Foundation. A worldwide leader in sports visualization hardware and software, Full Swing’s mission is to be known as one of the leading innovators for data collection in not only golf, but sports more broadly.

“It’s very similar to like what Apple did with the iPhone, only in a much smaller scale. But they were able to put a supercomputer in the palm of your hand and we’re now able to do that with our tech,” Fierro said. “That gives you the power of a massive radar in this little device.”

“Adding the launch monitor, that gives us a product that people we’ve never had that opportunity to talk to can take outside,” he added. “You know, to have a tech that allows people to get their data on the range or on the course at the price point, it significantly widens our customer base that could afford a launch monitor at $4,000 versus $55,000 for our simulator.”

Indeed, it gives more golfers the opportunity to train like Tiger.
