French President Macron Talks About Web3, EU Regulation, Innovation, And More

On Friday, The Big Whale, a crypto website based in France, released an interview with President Emmanuel Macron. The interview was published just two days before the second round of the French election concluded, in which the president was put against his rival Marine Le Pen.

Published in French, the interview was also translated into English.

Macron optimistically talked about the regulatory future in which a unified European finance sector would take a practical approach that would encourage innovation and instill confidence.

Macron says that in order to ensure that the text does not prevent innovation and stays neutral in relation to the technology. He is also hopeful that the current events will accelerate the advancement of the digital euro.

He is also concerned that Europeans might take a backseat in terms of the development of web3 and the metaverse. Macron says he wishes to see Europe playing a central role in the development of web3 and the metaverse, contrary to what has happened so far.

The president also wants the Europeans to get well-versed in mastering the technological building blocks associated with the metaverse and web3 and becoming independent of American or Chinese giants. He also proposed that cultural institutions in Europe should also develop an NFT policy.

Macron said that he has no issues with foreign investments until the headquarters of startups and tech companies remain in France. The president believes a powerful ecosystem translates to a powerful European venture capital industry.

As reported earlier this month, Changpeng Zhao, CEO of Binance, announced a collaboration with Station F, a Paris-based startup incubator, with a 100 million euro ($108 million) investment in France from the Paris Blockchain Week Summit.
