FC Barcelona’s Two New Signings Set To Be Announced In The Next Few Days

FC Barcelona are set to announce two new signings in the next few days, according to reports.

Beaten 2-0 at home by Villarreal in their last game of another campaign to forget, the defeat at Camp Nou which saw the Blaugrana whistled and jeered by their own fans at full time highlighted that the need to make reinforcements ahead of next season is greater than ever.

In his post-match interview, coach Xavi Hernandez insisted that the club has to change “a lot of things” to be competitive as it “cannot afford” another term without silverware like the one that has just concluded.

But it is also true that Barca cannot afford to make big signings in the soon-to-be opened transfer window due to their bleak financial situation, which is why they will look at free agents with a pair set to be announced as new signings in the coming days, according to SPORT.

As the Catalans head Down Under to play a friendly against an A-League All-Star team in Sydney, the arrivals of Franck Kessie and Andreas Christensen could already be revealed.

Though the pair are still tied to AC Milan and Chelsea respectively until June 30, it has been claimed that the duo have had terms agreed with Barca for quite some time.

Crowned a Serie A champion with the Italians on Sunday, as they won their first Scudetto in 11 years, Kessie will add much-needed bite to the midfield and provide back-up to veteran captain Sergio Busquets if not playing in front of the pivot with the likes of Pedri and Gavi, and possibly Frenkie de Jong if the Dutchman doesn’t leave.

The Ivory Coast international was vital in Milan’s title win, and scored seven goals while providing an assist with 2,900 minutes racked up over 39 appearances.

As for Danish defender Christensen, he played fewer minutes with 2,583 across the Premier League, Champions League and England’s cup competitions in 34 games, yet he will land at Camp Nou to reinforce a defense that looks set to lose the likes of Samuel Umtiti, Clement Lenglet and Oscar Mingueza while being able to put a shift in at center back or right back.
