FC Barcelona Could Receive Surprise ‘Economic Lever’ In Coming Days

FC Barcelona could receive a surprise ‘economic lever’ before the end of the transfer window, if reports from L’Equipe are accurate.

Barca already pulled a lever earlier this summer when reselling stakes in Barca Studios for €120 million ($129.7 million).

The much-needed cash meant that they were able to register new signings such as Ilkay Gundogan, who was reported as having a special clause in his contract which determined he could walk for free and still receive a year’s full salary if not cleared to face Getafe almost a fortnight ago.

With two fixtures already down in 2023/2024, Barca are currently trying to land the likes of Joao Cancelo on loan and might also bring in another attacker such as Joao Felix after seemingly missing out on Bernardo Silva, who is about to renew his Manchester City contract according to transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano.

Speaking of transfers, L’Equipe reports that ex-Barca defender Jean-Clair Todibo is one step away from switching to Premier

League giants Manchester United from Nice for a €30 million ($32.4 million) fee which British outlets such as the Daily Mail report as a higher £34 million ($43 million).

In any event, Barca stand to make a tidy profit from the expected operation. When they sold the 23-year-old to the Ligue 1 outfit in 2021, the Catalans cleverly made sure that they reserved 20% of any future sale.

While Todibo didn’t take at Barca, where he made just four league appearances, nor in Portugal during a loan assignment at Benfica, he has since found his feet and blossomed into becoming one of the French top flight’s most promising defenders hence the interest from Manchester United.

Depending on whose figures are accurate, Barca stand to pocket something like €6 million ($6.5 million) or £6.8 million ($8.6 million) as a result of his transfer to the Premier League, which will help dearly when it comes to registering new players of their own or putting the money towards buying a fresh face either now or in January.

By the end of the week, Barca manager Xavi Hernandez should be able to call on Inigo Martinez – already in the squad yet finally returning from injury – and Joao Cancelo who is expected to complete a loan move from United’s crosstown rivals Manchester City.
