Fani Willis Wants Bail Revoked For Trump Co-Defendant In Georgia Election Case

Topline

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, who is prosecuting former President Donald Trump’s election interference case, requested the judge overseeing the case revoke the bond of one of Trump’s co-defendants, Harrison Floyd, due to “a pattern of intimidation toward” co-defendants and witnesses, citing recent social media posts and a podcast appearance, according to multiple outlets.

Key Facts

Floyd allegedly intimidated witnesses and co-defendants through posts on X, formerly known as Twitter, that were directed at Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger and former Fulton County poll worker Ruby Freeman, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Floyd could be sent back to Fulton County jail while awaiting trial if his bond is revoked; he was the only Trump co-defendant to be held in jail after being booked in connection to the election interference case, and spent five nights there before being released.

In a filing, Willis cited multiple social media posts made by Floyd in addition to a podcast appearance he made this month where he allegedly discussed facts of the case and indirectly communicated with co-defendant and witness Jenna Ellis, a former Trump campaign lawyer who pleaded guilty to one count of aiding and abetting false statements and writings.

Willis claimed in the filing Floyd “poses a significant threat of intimidating witnesses and otherwise obstructing the administration of justice in the future,” according to CNN, which Floyd’s attorneys declined to provide comment to.

Floyd’s bond agreement stipulated he couldn’t intimidate co-defendants or witnesses or communicate with them about the case directly or indirectly.

Big Number

$100,000. That was the bond amount for Floyd and several other co-defendant’s including Trump campaign attorneys John Eastman, Kenneth Chesebro and Sidney Powell.

Key Background

Floyd, one of 19 defendants in the election interference case, was charged with a violation of Georgia’s racketeering act in addition to influencing witnesses and soliciting false statements and writings. He is the former head of Black Voices for Trump, a political organization advocating for the former president. Separately, Floyd was charged earlier this year for allegedly assaulting an FBI agent tasked with serving a subpoena to him. Floyd told officers that the two agents who showed up to his home “were lucky I didn’t have a gun on me, because I would have shot” one of them, according to an affidavit reported by CNN.
