Elon Musk Gets Booed After Joining Dave Chappelle On Stage At San Francisco Show

Topline

Billionaire Elon Musk was met with a negative reaction from the crowd after he was brought on stage by Dave Chappelle during a stand-up comedy show at San Francisco’s Chase Center on Sunday night.

Key Facts

Musk’s unexpected appearance took place at the end of the show, which was part of one of the biggest comedy tours of the year featuring stand-up icons Chappelle and Chris Rock.

According to clips of the event shared by attendees on social media, Chappelle invited Musk on stage as he asked the crowd to “make some noise for the richest man in the world,” a request that was first met with a mixed reaction.

The boos got louder as Musk waved at the audience and raised both his hands prompting Chappelle to quip that some of the people recently fired from Twitter by Musk may be in the audience.

As the negative reaction against Musk continued Chappelle took a shot at his own audience saying all the people who are booing “have terrible seats.”

Chappelle then joked about Musk’s space travel endeavors telling the audience they can boo all they want but the billionaire’s business model was “f*ck earth I’m leaving anyway…I’m going to Mars.”

The segment then ended with a callback to a segment from Chappelle’s Show as the comedian made Musk shout “I’m rich, bitch!”

Key Background

Both Musk and Chappelle have been in the midst of various controversies in the past year. The 49-year-old comic has been the target of intense criticism over the past year after he was accused of making several transphobic jokes on his Netflix comedy special “The Closer.” Chappelle has dismissed his critics, accusing them of trying to “cancel” him. Musk has been at the center of several major controversies this year, with the biggest ones revolving around his actions after taking over the ownership of the social media platform Twitter. On Sunday, Musk appeared to mock transgender people and the use of pronouns while playing up conspiracy theories around the government’s response to Covid-19 by tweeting “my pronouns are Prosecute/Fauci.” Since taking over Twitter in late October, Musk has fired more than half of the company’s workers, publicly targeted the platform’s former leadership teams and restored hundreds of accounts that were previously banned from the platform for engaging in hateful conduct.
