‘Double XL’, ‘Mili’, ‘Phone Bhoot’ Score Lower Than ‘Kantara’

Kannada film Kantara continues to score better than the latest Bollywood releases as it closes to a $45 million collection worldwide. Led by Sonakshi Sinha and Huma Qureshi, Hindi film Double XL scored a mere $0.06 million in the first weekend in India while Mathukutty Xavier’s Hindi film Mili, headlined by Janhvi Kapoor, could only manage $0.20 million over the first weekend. Phone Bhoot collected a mere 0.98 million over the weekend.

Out of the three Hindi releases, Phone Bhoot scored the best. Featuring Katrina Kaif, Ishaan Khatter and Siddhant Chaturvedi in lead roles horror comedy Phone Bhoot had a dismal opening in India on Friday with a meagre $0.25 million. The collections soared a bit over the weekend but not enough to make a mark. Directed by Gurmmeet Singh, the film is backed by Farhan Akhtar band Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment. Singh had previously directed the popular crime web series Mirzapur for Amazon’sAMZN
Prime Video.

Mili is a Hindi remake of the popular Malayalam movie Helen and is backed by Kapoor’s father Boney Kapoor. Both the original and the Hindi adaptation have been directed by Xavier. The new film had a dismal opening of $43,013 in India and the collections did not see any significant rising graph over the weekend. The movie could collect only $0.20 million over the first weekend. The estimated budget of the film was $4- $5 and the box office trends show no sign of recovering it from the ticket windows.

Directed by Satram Ramani, Double XL had the smallest budget of all the Hindi releases, with an estimated cost of $2 million. The movie collected a meagre $15,365 on Friday and went on to make a total of $58,415 over the first weekend in India.

Rishab Shetty’s Kantara is the second highest grosser among Kannada films this year and the regional movie continues to attract audiences much better than the new releases. Kantara collected over $2 million across all languages in India over the weekend ending November 6. Out of the $42.5 million worldwide collection, Kantara has grossed $38.7 million in India alone while the Hindi version of the film has collected $7.6 million in India.
