Donald Trump Jr. Testifies For Hours Before January 6 Committee

Topline

Donald Trump Jr. voluntarily met with January 6 committee investigators for hours on Tuesday, according to multiple reports, becoming the second of former President Donald Trump’s adult children to provide lengthy testimony to the committee.

Key Facts

The remote meeting lasted more than three hours, with Trump answering all questions he was asked, according to CNN, citing two sources who described the occasion as cordial.

Trump’s testimony came about a month after his sister, Ivanka Trump, testified, while his brother-in-law, Jared Kushner, and fiancée, Kimberly Guilfoyle, have also met with investigators.

The January 6 committee did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Forbes.

Key Background

CNN published leaked text messages last month allegedly showing the eldest son of the real estate mogul-turned-president strategizing about overturning the 2020 election results before President Joe Biden was ever declared the winner. Trump reportedly sent the text messages to then-White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, laying out ideas like lawsuits challenging results, plans to appoint fake electors and, if necessary, a last-ditch effort to block the election’s certification on January 6, 2021. The suggestions, made just two days after the election, essentially mirrors what became the Trump team’s legal strategy. The January 6 committee in November released text messages Trump sent Meadows on January 6 saying the situation had “gone too far and gotten out of hand,” while urging Meadows to get his father to “condemn this shit ASAP.”

What To Watch For

The January 6 committee plans to hold eight public hearings in June.
