DAZN Acquire Saudi Women’s Premier League’s Global Broadcasting Rights

DAZN has added the global rights to the Saudi Women’s Premier League to its agreement for the men’s competition.

DAZN, one of the world’s leading sports entertainment platforms, announced reaching an agreement with the Saudi Arabian Football Federation to broadcast its Women’s Premier League, the top women’s football division, internationally.

This is the Saudi league’s first international broadcast deal.

Following their recent coverage of the men’s Roshn Saudi League, Saudi Arabia’s top-tier football league, DAZN’s decision to add the women’s league to its list of products serves as proof of commitment and belief in the growing importance of Saudi football.

DAZN’s move to broadcast the Saudi women’s league will also help promote women’s football in the Middle East region by offering it to new unfamiliar audiences.

In recent years, DAZN has been a remarkable ambassador of women’s football. Their coverage of first, the UEFA Women’s Champions League, and second, Spain’s Liga F, was unprecedented and was welcomed by an unmatched success. The platform also broadcasts the German, Italian, and French women’s leagues.

Following the announcement, Aalia Abdulaziz Al-Rasheed, the Head of the women’s football department of the Saudi Arabian Football Federation, said: “We’re delighted to have finalized the Saudi Women’s Premier League’s first international broadcast deal with DAZN, which promises to promote the women’s game here in Saudi across global territories, thereby attracting new audiences and inspiring generations present and future.”

Hannah Brown, DAZN’s co-CEO of women’s sport, said: “DAZN has an unparalleled commitment to the growth and development of women’s football. The addition of the Saudi Women’s Premier League allows us to further elevate the game, and support women and girls who play and watch football.”

Brown says that DAZN’s decision to welcome the Saudi league on board was quite natural, “we have been following closely the progress of the women’s game in Saudi Arabia since they launched their first national league in 2020, and we are thrilled to support the league in the next phase of its development.”

“DAZN is the home of women’s football. We are the exclusive global broadcaster for the UEFA Women’s Champions League and Spain’s Liga F, alongside broadcasting top-flight domestic women’s football in Germany, Italy and France. We are continually developing our product, distribution channels and partnerships to increase reach and scale engagement in women’s football.”

Saudi Arabian football has been running at the speed of light this past year, with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, Riyad Mahrez, and N’Golo Kante moving to the Kingdom. Women’s football had its share of the plate as well.

The federation organized the first edition of the Saudi Women’s top-flight league in 2022, which saw Al-Nassr crowned champions, and teams are beginning to attract star names such as the former Leicester City player Ashleigh Plumptre, who joined Al-Ittihad.
