The Dave Matthews Band is back on the Billboard charts after a five-year break with their latest album, Walk Around the Moon. Fans showed up to support the outfit and their new set, though it falls short of their previous achievements, and it breaks one of the most impressive run of chart champions in history.
Walk Around the Moon debuts at a respectable No. 5 on this week’s Billboard 200, which measures the most-consumed albums and EPs in the U.S. While this is a strong start, it marks the end of the band’s lengthy streak of consecutive No. 1 albums.
Since 1998, every studio album released by the Dave Matthews Band has reached the top spot on the Billboard 200. Now, with Walk Around the Moon launching at No. 5, the group’s 25-year streak of No. 1 albums has come to an end. Their latest simply couldn’t surpass Morgan Wallen’s One Thing at a Time, which continued its dominance on the charts.
The Dave Matthews Band first reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in 1998 with their album Before These Crowded Streets. They went on to achieve seven consecutive No. 1 albums, including Everyday (2001), Busted Stuff (2002), Stand Up (2005), Big Whiskey & the GrooGrux King (2009), Away from the World (2012), and Come Tomorrow (2018).
Although Walk Around the Moon didn’t reach No. 1 on the Billboard 200, it still managed to become the band’s seventeenth top 10 album. The set also debuted at No. 1 on the Top Album Sales chart, thanks to strong sales of nearly 40,000 copies. These sales account for the majority of the album’s 44,000 equivalent album units during its debut week.
