Dallas Mavericks Summer League Standout Moses Wright Signs Contract In China

Moses Wright is not returning to the Dallas Mavericks for the 2022-23 NBA season. Instead, Wright is taking his talents to China. He signed with the Zhejiang Golden Bulls, the team announced.

In July, Wright was a featured player for the Mavericks Summer League team in Las Vegas. Coming into the summer tournament, Wright expressed the desire to have his performance during Summer League translate into landing a roster spot with Dallas.

“I came into this Summer League with the knowledge that I want to be the most dominant being out there,” Wright told reporters after the Summer League team’s first practice. “The most dominant person I can be, whether it’s with my talk, rebounding, defensive presence—no matter what I do, just being dominant at what I do. I just hopefully achieve it because there’s an open roster spot here, and that’s what I’m fighting for, that open roster spot with whatever I do.”

In four games, he averaged 15.5 points, 6.7 rebounds, 1.5 assists and a steal in 19 minutes per game. His best game in the desert came against the Milwaukee Bucks when he scored 26 points and pulled down 11 rebounds.

Last season, Wright spent his time bouncing around franchises and between the G League and NBA. He played in the preseason with the Los Angeles Clippers before moving to their G League affiliate Agua Caliente Clippers. Then, he signed a two-way contract with the Mavericks in February. After that, he spent much of the remainder of the season with the Texas Legends.

Wright averaged 19.6 points, 9.2 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.5 blocks in 28 games with Agua Caliente and Texas. He shot 56.2 percent from the floor and 39.5 percent from deep. His performance earned him a First Team All-G League selection.

He may not have had the summer he hoped for, earning a spot to remain in the NBA, but his skills and how he played during Summer League were enough to land him a contract overseas.

Dallas still has an open roster spot and a two-way spot that it has yet to fill.
