Coinbase and ENS partner to provide cb.id usernames for free

Coinbase and ENS, short for Ethereum Name Service, have entered into a partnership to provide Web3 usernames to its users for free. These usernames are managed by Coinbase. They can be claimed through the desktop or mobile applications by new and existing users.

A username, cb.id in this case, allows users to customize their wallet address before sharing it with others to send or receive funds. Moreover, a customized Web3 username makes it easier for other members of the community to locate them on the network. They are easier to remember, and one does not have to use 0x7ec— usernames anymore.

The prime objective of making Web3 usernames managed by Coinbase accessible to users is to make it convenient for them to secure their decentralized identity on the Coinbase Exchange platform. Furthermore, the coinbase username of each customer is a subdomain tied to Coinbase’s Domain Name System (DNS) domain (cb.id), which in turn is registered under the ENS protocol.

cb.id usernames can be claimed easily. Existing users can access their browser extension and visit the Community section to claim the username for free. Prompts must be followed to submit and check if the personalized Web3 username is available or not. It must not pose any security concerns and violate ENS rules.

A username will generally be reserved for users to confirm. They may opt to choose a different username and create one for themselves. It will finally be assigned only after checking the availability.

Choosing a cb.id username on mobile applications is rather easy. New users only have to download the Android or iOS application of Coinbase, create a new wallet, and follow the prompt. Check all the boxes to agree with the terms & conditions, and submit the selection. It will be assigned by Coinbase after verifying the details and availability.

New users can choose to decline the username and customize it as per their requirements. Existing users may choose to navigate to the Community section and claim the username on a mobile application.

On top of this, users can choose to keep an NFT as their profile picture. This can be done by selecting Choose next to the profile picture and uploading the image or choosing an NFT from the wallet. Click save after uploading or selecting the NFT and then save the updates. It will appear as your profile picture on Coinbase.
