CNBC Anchor Whose Harassment Accusations Led To CEO’s Firing Leaves Network

Topline

Anchor and senior CNBC International correspondent Hadley Gamble — whose sexual harassment accusations of NBCUniversal CEO Jeff Shell led to the executive’s firing — has left the network.

Key Facts

News of Gamble’s departure came just weeks after Shell left the network after admitting to an “inappropriate relationship with a woman in the company.”

The New York Times first reported that Gamble and CNBC came to an agreement for her to leave the company, citing someone familiar with knowledge of the decision but who didn’t provide more details.

Gamble, who worked for CNBC since 2010, was based in Abu Dhabi and anchored “Capital Connection;” before working with CNBC she had worked for ABC News and Fox News.

In a statement about Gamble’s departure, CNBC said she is “a distinguished journalist” with “deep experience in the Middle East and beyond” and wished her success.

Key Background

In March, Gamble filed a complaint accusing Shell, who had been CEO of NBCUniversal for a little more than three years, of sexual harassment and made allegations of bullying and discrimination at CNBC, including against some managers at CNBC. Shell has said Gamble’s claims “wildly misrepresents the facts of what happened,” according to the New York Times, but in a statement after leaving he said, “I deeply regret” the relationship and “I’m truly sorry I let my Comcast and NBCUniversal colleagues down.” Since Shell’s departure Comcast’s president Michael Cavanagh has been overseeing NBCUniversal.
