Chris Stapleton & Lainey Wilson Are Big Winners & Dolly Parton Is A Rockstar

It was an evening of dynamic performances and surprise wins that saw Chris Stapleton take home the biggest award of the night: ACM Entertainer of the Year. Stapleton clearly had no idea he might win.

“Whoa, I’m shocked,” he said as he took the stage to accept the award. “By any imaginable metric, I don’t deserve this, but thank you.”

Lainey Wilson and HARDY were two of the evening’s other big winners with four awards each. Cole Swindell was next in line with three.

Wilson won Female Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, Music Event of the Year, and Visual Media of the Year. In accepting the award for Female Artist, she thanked those who encouraged and believed in her, and noted she and her fellow nominees had worked hard and made a lot of sacrifices to get to where they are today. She went on to add, “For the little girls watching this, this right here stands for hard work. If you’re gonna be a dreamer, you’d better be a doer.”

Wilson shared her Music Event of the Year award with HARDY for their collaboration on the song “Wait in the Truck.” It’s a song that touches on the issue of domestic violence and a man’s decision to take matters into his own hands. HARDY co-wrote the song and created the concept for the video. His other ACMs include Artist-Songwriter of the Year.

Cole Swindell took home awards for Song of the Year and Single of the Year for “She Had Me at Heads Carolina.”

This year’s Male Artist of the Year went to Morgan Wallen, but he couldn’t attend the ceremony due to doctors’ orders to rest his vocal cords.

Country superstars Dolly Parton and Garth Brooks co-hosted this year’s show from The Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas. They struck a nice balance between celebrating today’s young artists and honoring the country legends who paved the way before them. The two did a quick on-air FaceTime visit with Willie Nelson to mark his recent 90th birthday. And they paid tribute to Loretta Lynn and Naomi Judd who passed away last year. Parton touched on her friendship with both, then spontaneously sang a few lines of “Precious Memories.”

The night featured a stream of electrifying performances from Keith Urban, Miranda Lambert, Jason Aldean, Cody Johnson, Kane Brown, HARDY, Lainey Wilson, and others, and collaborations with Cole Swindell and Jo Dee Messina, Trisha Yearwood and Carly Pearce, and Luke Combs and Ed Sheeran.

The show wrapped up with Dolly Parton premiering the first song from her upcoming rock and roll album. Garth Brooks did the introduction.

“She’s not only in the Country Music Hall of Fame, she was recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame,” he told the crowd. “She originally asked them not to consider her because she felt she hadn’t earned it. Then Dolly did what only Dolly would do. She went in and recorded her first rock album that is called, of course, Rockstar.

Brooks added that her song “World on Fire” is a powerful anthem, “just when our world could really use one.”

Parton then launched into a riveting performance, dancers and all. When it ended, she and Brooks bid everyone good night.

Most music fans watching the show would likely agree there’s a good reason the ACMs are called “Country music’s party of the year.”

Originally streamed live, the full rebroadcast of the 58th Annual ACM Awards is now available on Amazon Prime Video.
