Bronx Fire Leaves “Numerous Fatalities” Expected, More Than 60 Injured

At least 63 people were injured and fatalities were expected after a devastating blaze tore through a 19-story apartment building in the Bronx borough of New York City on Sunday, according to multiple reports, in what is believed to be one of the worst fires in the city in recent decades.

According to the New York Daily News, Mayor Eric Adams said over 32 people “​​are life-threatening at this time,” adding “This is going to be one of the worst fires we have witnessed during modern times in the city of New York.”

The five-alarm fire reportedly broke out shortly before 11 a.m. at a residential building in the Fordham Heights neighborhood.

According to ABC News, the fire has since been put out.

New York City Fire Department Commissioner Daniel Nigro said at a press conference that “numerous fatalities” are expected.
