Billie Eilish Could Match One Of Adele And Kelly Clarkson’s Biggest Accomplishments

Going into the 2022 Grammy Awards, Billie Eilish is tied with Olivia Rodrigo for the fifth-most nominations, as both women landed seven chances to win some gold. The two stars are both vying for some of the top prizes, and they’re up against one another in several fields, many of which Eilish has already won. There is one in particular that stands out for the 20-year-old singer-songwriter, and if she comes out on top again, she’ll make history and tie two of the best who have ever done it.

Eilish is currently nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album for her release Happier Than Ever. The title is her sophomore full-length, and it marks her second time competing for the category, which is known as one of the most competitive at the biggest award ceremony in the music world. The beloved alt-pop superstar won the trophy back in 2020 with her debut release When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? That set beat out popular efforts by the likes of Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Ed Sheeran and Beyoncé, and it made her one of the youngest Grammy champions ever.

Now, Eilish is looking to claim her second Best Pop Vocal Album trophy, and if she does come out on top, she’ll become just the third artist in Grammy history to win the field more than once. Currently, only Adele and Kelly Clarkson have done so, and both artists have snagged just a pair of awards, so should she be named the voter’s choice once again, Eilish will be tied for the most wins ever.

Clarkson became the first musician to win Best Pop Vocal Album twice in 2013 when her release Stronger was named the champion. She collected her first honor in 2006 with Breakaway. Clarkson has also been nominated three additional times, making her one of the most celebrated pop singers in the category’s history.

Adele is the only other star to collect two Best Pop Vocal Album Grammys, and she may very well snag a third next year when her blockbuster effort 30 will be eligible. Unlike Clarkson, Adele has claimed the prize every time she’s been in the running, as only her global successes 21 and 25 have been nominated, and both won not just the pop category, but Album of the Year.

As Eilish is hoping to join Adele and Clarkson with a second win in the Best Pop Vocal Album category, so too is Grande. The fellow pop chart-topper is nominated once again for her CD Positions, and with one honor already in her name for her Sweetener full-length, she might beat Eilish to this bit of history. The two women are up against fellow powerhouse Justin Bieber’s Justice (Triple Chucks Deluxe), Doja Cat’s Planet Her (Deluxe) and Rodrigo’s Sour, though none of those favorites have been chosen by voters as the winner before.

The winners of the 2022 Grammys will be named on April 3.
