Directed by Anees Bazmee, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 earned approximately $13 million worldwide while it collected $11.9 million in a week of the release in India alone. It features Tabu, Kartik Aaryan and Kiara Advani in significant roles.
The film has the second best first week collection this year for Hindi films in India. Vivek Agnihotri’s political drama, The Kashmir Files had a better performance with $12.5 million collection in a week. Before Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiwadi had the second highest one-week collection at $8.8million.
Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 had a grand opening in Indian markets with $1.81 million collection on the first day of the release. The collections soared high over the weekend and the film made a total of $7.2 million. It released across 3200 screens in India and around 600 screens overseas. Made at an estimated budget of $10.3 million, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 collected $805,000 worldwide over the first weekend in the USA markets alone.
Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 is a sequel to Priyadarshan’s 2007 film, Bhool Bhulaiyaa. Starring Akshay Kumar in the lead role, it also featured Vidya Balan, Ameesha Patel and Shiney Ahuja in important roles. It was a remake of the 1993 Malayalam film Manichitrathazhu. It was made on an estimated budget of $4.2 million and went on to earn $11 million worldwide. It also emerged as the eighth highest-grossing Bollywood film of 2007 in India.
Meanwhile, Prashanth Neel’s KGF Chapter 2 continues to run in Indian theatres for six weeks. The Hindi version of the film has now collected $55.8 million in India.
