Before Tiger Woods Is Inducted Into World Golf Hall Of Fame, Daughter Sam Takes Center Stage As Presenter

Tiger Woods’ place in the Pro Golf Hall of Fame has long been a foregone conclusion. But the March 9 induction ceremony is sure to have special meaning for Woods — particularly so because his 14-year-old daughter, Sam, will bring the 15-time major champion on stage as a presenting speaker.

Sam’s younger brother, 12-year-old Charlie, has gotten his share of recent attention, teaming with his dad the past two years at the PNC Championship. This past December, Woods returned to competitive golf at the event for the first time since a near-fatal car accident, but it was young Charlie who snagged much of the spotlight, with extensive television, print and social media coverage of his swing, his highlights and the on-course mannerisms the two share. It didn’t hurt that they were in contention either, ultimately finishing two shots behind John Daly and his son.

While Sam accompanied her dad and brother on the course at the PNC Championship, her public visibility hasn’t compared to that of Charlie, whose play in junior tournaments has also been chronicled in recent years.

But before Woods makes his speech, slips into an exclusive Hall of Fame jacket and receives yet another trophy – this one from Tiffany Co. – it will be Sam who celebrates her father and his accomplishments at the PGA TOUR’s headquarters in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. The induction ceremony is being held the night before the start of the Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass.

Woods is one of four set for induction, along with four-time major winner Susie Maxwell Berning, former PGA TOUR commissioner Tim Finchem, and golf course architect and developer Marion Hollins, who is being recognized posthumously. The other two presenters, in addition to Sam Woods, are both Hall of Famers. Judy Rankin will introduce Berning and Davis Love III will be the presenter for Finchem.

Emmy Award-winning broadcaster David Feherty is hosting the ceremony, which will air live on Golf Channel. It will be the World Golf Hall of Fame’s first induction since 2019, with the biennial celebration pushed back a year in 2021 due to uncertainties caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
