Beer Companies Capitalize On Luka Doncic’s ‘Recovery Beer’ Remark

Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic got a lot of attention when he recorded the first-ever 60-point, 20-rebound triple-double in the history of the NBA. It wasn’t just his performance that people were talking about after the game; they also noticed what he said in a post-game interview.

Speaking with Jeff “Skin” Wade on Bally Sports Southwest, Doncic said, “I’m tired as Hell. I need a recovery beer.” His remark about needing a recovery beer went viral almost immediately.

Michelob ULTRA, the official beer sponsor of the NBA and the Mavericks, sprang into action. They delivered a load of beer to Doncic’s locker inside the Mavericks’ locker room at the American Airlines Center in Dallas.

Michelob wasn’t the only beer company to capitalize on Doncic’s comment. Lasko Brewery, the largest brewery in Doncic’s home country of Slovenia, launched its own recovery beer. In an Instagram post, the company said the beer is “For all tired Luka’s who need a beer for regeneration, we have brewed… 🍻Recovery beer🍻.”

While Michelob and Lasko were keen to make the most out of Doncic’s remark, this isn’t the first time a beer company has jumped at the opportunity to promote itself after something a Mavericks player has said. In 2017, Bud Light delivered Dirk Nowitzki 30,000 beers after he celebrated reaching 30,000 career points by having a postgame Bud Light.

As for Doncic, if he continues to break NBA records and play at an MVP level, there will probably be many more recovery beers in his future.
