Assault-Style Firearm Found At Tulsa Hospital Bought Same Day As Shooting

Topline

An AR-15 assault-style firearm found at the scene of a shooting spree in a medical building in Tulsa, Okla., that left four dead and nearly 10 others injured Wednesday had been purchased hours before the shooting, Tulsa police said Thursday.

Key Facts

Tulsa Police Chief Wendell Franklin said during a press conference the suspect, identified as Michael Louis, had purchased an AR-15 style firearm around 2 p.m. on Wednesday, and police received the first reports of the shooting at 4:52 p.m.

A handgun found also at the scene had been purchased on May 29—three days before the shooting, Franklin said.

Tulsa Police Department Deputy Chief Eric Dalgleish said during a Wednesday press conference the suspected gunman, believed to be between the ages of 35 and 40, died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Key Background

Tulsa Police responded to a report of a person with a gun at St. Francis Hospital just before 5 p.m. on Wednesday, according to Dalgleish. Responding officers arrived within minutes and found the gunman dead as they worked to clear the Natalie Medical Building, a physicians’ office facility, Dalgleish said. The shooting in Tulsa comes just over two weeks after an 18-year-old man allegedly walked into a supermarket in Buffalo, New York, and killed 10 people in what authorities have called a racist attack, and just over a week after a gunman killed 19 students and two teachers at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas.
