Apple AR/VR Headset To Leave Behind Meta’s Quest VR As It Collaborates With Hollywood Celebs?

Be it the boom of web browsers and Personal computers in the 1990s, or the internet and smartphones, big tech giants flocked to these technologies, making themselves worth trillions of dollars. These big players are tracing the same line as they battle to control the rods of new emerging technology, the Metaverse.

Last year, Mark Zuckerberg announced that he was changing his company’s name from Facebook to Meta to channel all its energy into the Metaverse, creating headlines. Facebook, now Meta, acquired Oculus, a start-up that developed virtual reality headsets, in a deal valued at over $2 billion in 2014. On the other hand, Google has been working on metaverse-related technology for years now.

Apple, too, encouraged its developers to build augmented-reality apps. Their journey began with ARKit in 2017. As per the latest reports, Apple is working on an augmented reality/virtual reality (AR/VR) headgear that will be powered by reality OS. With this device, Apple, the biggest winner of the mobile boom, can do it again as the tech giant collaborates with Hollywood directors on video content.

According to sources, Apple has partnered with various Hollywood directors, including Jon Favreau, to develop video content for the headset, which is scheduled to release next year. Mr. Favareau, who currently is acting as an executive producer of “Prehistoric Planet” on Apple TV+, is preparing to bring that show’s dinosaurs to life on the headset. The Iron man director collaborating with Apple itself signals that the tech giant is up to something big.

But, the apple enthusiasts would have to wait for the mixed reality video material until 2023, when the headset is expected to debut. But the talk around its features has already started making rounds, ranging from its “Mac-level” processing power to form factor.

“Mac-level” processing power of Apple’s headset can leave behind Meta’s Quest Virtual-Reality headset in this regard. Though Meta seems to be doing a lot on the surface, Apple can prove to be an underdog through its collaboration with such big Hollywood celebrities.

Moreover, the recently published video by Meta titled “Meta’s Next VR Headset: What You Need to Know” too failed to impress tech experts, as it looked “bland” to them in terms of innovation and graphics. On the other hand, Apple is differentiating its product from Meta by partnering with Hollywood biggies.

While Apple’s chief executive, Tim Crook, has already highlighted the potential of augmented reality for years. In 2016, he shared that the company looks at it as a great commercial opportunity and is investing heavily in it. It was also heard at that time that many Apple employees were immersed in the futuristic world of the “Ready Player One,” a book and a movie about virtual reality.

It would be interesting to witness who, Meta or Apple, will successfully bring about the world of “Ready Player One” to life.
