Amir Khan Vs. Kell Brook: Odds, Purses, Records, Prediction

It’s a fight that should have occurred about seven years ago when Amir Khan and Kell Brook were actually in their primes. Now, when the two 149-pound rivals who can’t stand the other meet in the ring on Saturday, the matchup will feature two former world titlists with questionable chins who are (probably) at the very end of their careers. Which means that it might be extra fun. Here’s everything you need to know about Amir Khan vs. Kell Brook, including the odds, their records, their purses and a prediction on who will win.

In 2015, Khan was coming off one of the best stretches of his career with wins vs. Luis Collazo, Devon Alexander and Chris Algieri. At about that same time, Brook was beating Shawn Porter for a welterweight title and then defending it three times before getting his face broken by Gennaidy Golovkin in 2016.

A big-action fight between Khan and Brook in 2015 or 2016 would have been fantastic.

But money (and who would get the majority of it) always seemed to get in the way. Sure, Khan made $2 million while getting knocked out by Canelo Alvarez in 2016 and then earned another $5 million when getting dominated by Terrence Crawford in 2019. And Kell Brook did OK for himself, reportedly making $4 million vs. Golovkin and $2 million vs. Crawford.

These days, though, their options for making huge money in the prizefighting ring is limited. Probably only to each other.

“I don’t want to go in there and just box him, I want to go in there to hurt him and to put him away,” Khan said, via Sky Sports. “He’s already got smashed up eye sockets, he’s already been beaten, knocked out, this is the time now where I finish his career off so he never needs to look at boxing again.

“This is going to be a nice payday for you, Kell Brook, so you get this payday and walk away. Leave the sport happy.”

According to the Sun, Khan is scheduled to make $6.8 million, while Brook will reportedly earn $4.08 million. The money is nice, of course, but for Brook, stopping Khan would be pretty great, too.

“It’s a long time coming for me, you’ll see,” said Brook. “He gets destroyed, he gets beat like I’ve been telling you for years. He’s never wanted this fight; it’s me that wanted this fight for the fans. He’s always had it his own way. He’s not having it his own way.”

Here’s more info on the Amir Khan vs. Kell Brook showdown that U.S. viewers can watch on ESPN+ beginning at 1 p.m. ET.

Amir Khan vs. Kell Brook odds

Though Brook is the small betting favorite, it seems like the sport books mostly see this as a 50/50 matchup. As of this writing, Brook was a -163 favorite (bet $163 to win $100), while Khan was the +137 underdog (win $137 on a $100 wager). If you like Khan to win by KO, that’s probably your best value at +400. Obviously, the books don’t think much of Khan’s chin, considering it’s only a +125 bet for Brook to stop Khan. Me? I think it’ll end by stoppage either way, so I might be inclined to go with -163 for the fight not to go the full 12 rounds.

If you were looking for a fun parlay for this weekend’s action of boxing (and this is only for entertainment purposes), I might take Khan vs. Brook to go less than 12 rounds at -163 and Jaime Munguia to win by stoppage against D’Mitrius Ballard at -350. That would earn you $107 on a $100 wager.

Amir Khan vs. Kell Brook records

This might be tough to believe, but Khan (34-5, 21 KOs) hasn’t held a world title since 2011. Back then, he was a 140-pound belt-holder and had beaten the likes of Paulie Malignaggi, Marcos Maidana and Zab Judah. But then he lost his belt to Lamont Peterson and fell to Danny Garcia, and from there, he’s only had one shot at a championship. And he got flattened by Alvarez when going for a middleweight title. In four of five Khan’s losses, he’s been stopped.

Eight years after scoring the biggest victory of his career against Porter, Brook (39-3, 27 KOs) has been up and down. He beat Frankie Gavin in 2015 and Michael Zerafa in 2018, but he suffered painful stoppage losses to Golovkin and Errol Spence. In 2020, Crawford finished him in the fourth round. In all, Brook is 3-3 in his last six fights, and all of his losses have been fairly ugly.

Amir Khan vs. Kell Brook prediction

Earlier this week, Terence Crawford, who knocked out both fighters, said this: “Amir, he’s ready. He’s been doing everything that he needs to do to get the victory.” I tend to agree with the sentiment. I think Khan will get the win, even if he has to survive some rough moments and maybe a knockdown or two to get it. I don’t see this fight going the distance. I’ll go with Khan to stop Brook in the seventh round, though I could just as easily see Brook doing the exact same thing.
