American Pop artist Jeff Koons To Take His NFT Project On Moon

  • American Pop artist Jeff Koons announced an NFT project that would contain a series of sculptures correlated to different NFTs and then launch it into space.
  • The project is named Jeff Koons: Moon Phases. Each of the sculptures in the project will be connected with a corresponding non-fungible token.
  • These NFTs will be sold and the proceeds will go to Doctors Without Borders. Launched in November 2021, Pace Gallery’s NFT gallery Pace Verso is organizing the project and NFT sales.

Jeff Koons, an American pop artist in an announcement disclosed a project that he will send to the moon and in which he will design a series of sculptures correlated to different NFTs.

Koon Is Taking “Moon Phases” To Moon

With the project, Koons is literally taking NFTs to the moon. The project is dubbed Jeff Koons: Moon Phases and as mentioned earlier, the artist will create a series of sculptures that from the Kennedy Space Station in Cape Canaveral, Florida, will be launched into space. Those sculptures will then be deposited on the moon.

Koons says he aims to create a “historically meaningful NFT project.” He adds that the space ventures are proof of the “limitless potential of humanity.” Interestingly, the project marks the 50th anniversary of the last manned moon mission, 1972’s Apollo 17 landing.

A corresponding non-fungible token will be connected to each of the sculptures. The NFTs will be sold while its proceeds will be donated to Doctors Without Borders.

Pace Gallery’s NFT gallery Pace Verso, launched in November 2021, is organizing the project and NFT sales.

4Space and NFMoon are two other companies that are involved in the project Koons is working on, besides Pace. In addition, Intuitive Machines has devised the lunar lander that will deliver the work of Koons.

What Made Koons Most Expensive Living Artist?

Last year, Koons shared his plans to work in collaboration on an NFT project with David Zwirner and the Gagosian network of art galleries, but now wouldn’t be continuing that since now he will be working on his project with Pace.

Among the most celebrated work of the artist is his metallic “Balloon Dog” sculptures, two of which are currently at the Museum of Modern Art, San Francisco, and Broad Contemporary Art Museum, L.A.

“Rabbit,” another sculpture of Koons, which when he sold it for $91 million at Christie’s in 2019 earned him the title of the most expensive living artist

NFTs are now pretty much normalized in the art world. In 2021, Sotheby’s and Christie’s brought in $250 million from NFT sales since these auction houses sold famous pieces such as CryptoPunks and high-value art such as Beeple’s Everdays.
