Alleged Louisville Shooter Legally Bought AR-15 Rifle Days Before Bank Attack, Police Say

Topline

The 25-year-old bank employee who killed five coworkers in Louisville on Monday legally purchased his weapon from a local gun shop, officials said Tuesday, adding that they believe the shooter targeted some of the victims.

Key Facts

Connor Sturgeon purchased an AR-15 rifle on April 4 from a shop in Louisville, Metro Police Chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel said at a press conference Tuesday.

Police have recovered other items from his personal residence, but have not yet released further information about the shooter’s motives and the events leading up to the attack as two investigations—one on the shooting of seven employees and one on the shooting of two police officers—are still ongoing.

Sturgeon was a current employee of Old National Bank, and the shooting “was targeted” at specific coworkers, five of whom have died since the Monday morning incident, Gwinn-Villaroel said.

What To Watch For

Body camera footage is scheduled to be released this afternoon, Gwinn-Villaroel said.
