After Eight Nominations, Will Justin Bieber Finally Win One Of The Top Four Awards?

Justin Bieber is one of the most-nominated musicians going into the 2022 Grammy Awards, as he is up for an incredible eight trophies. That ties him with Doja Cat and H.E.R., and they all come in behind only Jon Batiste, who earned a historic 11 nods. The Canadian pop star is in the running for most of the biggest prizes offered by the Recording Academy, and he’s surely looking to not just win more gold, but to snag some very specific honors, ones which have eluded him throughout his career.

Bieber is currently nominated for Album of the Year—for the deluxe edition of his latest full-length Justice—as well as both Record and Song of the Year—for his No. 1 hit “Peaches.” That tune also credits musicians Giveon and Daniel Caesar, so if Bieber wins, they do as well.

It’s always an honor for any musician to be nominated in those categories, as they are three of the big four—Album, Record, Song of the Year and Best New Artist—and Bieber has been in the running for all of them before. In fact, the chart-topper has already snagged eight nominations in just those four fields, but he’s never come out on top.

Throughout his career, Bieber has been nominated for 22 Grammys, and thus far, he’s only taken home two trophies. That’s a low ratio, but it might improve in a few weeks. Will Bieber finally land a big four Grammy? Early predictions from various media outlets and music industry insiders who closely follow the biggest night in the music industry don’t seem to point to a yes.

The pop powerhouse faces an uphill battle in all three of the top fields he’s nominated in. Justice may not be able to compete against critically adored releases by the likes of Billie Eilish, Lil Nas X, Doja Cat and Olivia Rodrigo, who appears to be a frontrunner. “Peaches” will probably also lose both of its most important categories, as tracks by Rodrigo, Eilish, Cat, X and even Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett will likely receive more love from voters.

Bieber was nominated for Best New Artist at the Grammys a little more than a decade ago, but he ended up losing to jazz musician Esperanza Spalding in one of the most surprising upsets in the ceremony’s history. Every star can only be in the running for that honor once, so sadly, Bieber won’t be able to claim that one trophy.

The “Sorry” powerhouse has been nominated for the Album of the Year Grammy twice—first for Purpose and now again with Justice. He’s also been in the running for Record of the Year two times—with “Despacito” alongside Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee and now with “Peaches.” When it comes to Song of the Year, Bieber has competed for the greatest honor bestowed upon songwriters in three years with his smashes “Love Yourself,” “Despacito” and now “Peaches.” Amazingly, despite all those chances to win, he hasn’t managed to snag even one of those gramophones.

While he might not end up claiming Album, Record or Song of the Year this time around, Bieber has several other chances to win some Grammys in 2022. He might have better luck in categories like Best Pop Solo Performance (for “Anyone”), Best Pop Duo/Group Performance (for “Lonely” with Benny Blanco), Best Pop Vocal Album (with Justice) or Best Music Video (“Peaches”). The heartthrob’s best chance could be in the Best R&B Performance vertical, where “Peaches” is one of two No. 1 smashes to be included, though voters may be too in love with Silk Sonic’s throwback “Leave the Door Open.”
